Mother & Daughter

Oil on Board.

76x122cm

This is my final piece, which was done in 8 hours.

Similarity

Oil on Board.

38x60cm

This board was done as a support painting/experimentation of composition that helped me gather thought and inspiration to my final piece ‘Mother & Daughter”.

Unknown

Oil on Board.

33x60cm

This was another supporting piece to the Mother & Daughter board.

Bare

Oil on Board.

38x60cm

A supporting work that helped build up the idea to ‘Mother & Daughter’. The idea was to try and explore the use of shadow on both subjects and then to combine the two subjects together to create a striking composition.

Shape

Oil on Board.

38x60cm

This is a piece I did to support both ‘Mother & Daughter’ and ‘Bare’. In this self-portrait, I experimented with the tones in shadow in extremity, especially the mid section of the face, which was heavily lit.

Grandfather

Oil on Craftboard.

66x101cm

This was the final piece in the exploration of looking at age and ‘The Resistance of Memory’, a theme we were given to expand on ourselves. This painting was originally started in Acrylic paint but then I went over it in Oil as I felt I could get more depth and progression in shadow.

Male

Female

Oil on Board.

42x50cm

These paintings were support work and experiments influenced through my sketchbook work. These were the first paintings I did in oils. I tried to show age through the shadow on the faces and to intensify the paintings by having a dark background, inspired by Mark Rothko’s Black-Form paintings.

Chin

Acrylic on Craftboard.

76x101cm

This painting was a final piece in a series of acrylic paintings. I was exploring the idea of facial contortion, having done a few pieces inspired by Jenny Saville in 5th year. This was based on a picture taken at an awkward angle.
